The UKHSA shared a list of everyone eligible
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has revealed who qualifies for a free NHS Covid vaccination this autumn and winter, with some individuals eligible from just six months of age.
Those offered the jab can secure appointments online or through the NHS app, the agency confirmed. This announcement follows a notable increase in Covid infections nationwide as temperatures drop and people gather more frequently indoors.
UKHSA posted on X, previously known as Twitter, earlier today (Wednesday, October 22): “Have you booked your free NHS COVID-19 vaccination? Check if you’re eligible and book online or via the NHS App now.” The UKHSA then clarified that you qualify for this year’s vaccine if you’re 75 or older (or will reach 75 by January 31, 2026), and/or reside in a care facility for elderly residents, reports The Mirror.
Eligibility also extends to those aged six months to 74 years with compromised immune systems resulting from medical treatments or health conditions including:
- long-term immunosuppressive treatment for conditions including lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), psoriasis or scleroderma
- steroid medication
- having or recently had chemotherapy, biological therapy or radiotherapy
- genetic disorder that affects immune system, such as severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID)
- HIV
- organ, bone marrow, or stem cell transplant
- have or had blood cancer, such as lymphoma, myeloma, or leukaemia
Nevertheless, this list represents merely an overview, and individuals are encouraged to consult their GP or specialist to confirm their eligibility. You can arrange your Covid vaccination here.
The UKHSA has also issued advice for anyone who thinks they may have caught Covid. On the NHS website, they state: “If you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, such as COVID-19, and you have a high temperature or do not feel well enough to go to work or carry out normal activities, you should avoid contact with vulnerable people and stay at home if possible. “
They also issued advice for anyone who cannot isolate at home for the duration of their illness. It includes:
- Wearing a well-fitting face covering made with multiple layers or a surgical face mask
- Avoiding crowded places such as public transport, large social gatherings, or anywhere that is enclosed or poorly ventilated
- Taking any exercise outdoors in places where you will not have close contact with other people
- Covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze; washing your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds or using hand sanitiser after coughing, sneezing and blowing your nose and before you eat or handle food; avoiding touching your face
