The Princess of Wales announced her shock cancer diagnosis to the country yesterday, amid speculation and outlandish rumours following her lengthily recovery from major abdominal surgery.
However, keen-eyed commentators noticed that someone very important was missing in the video, which was filmed at Windsor, and released at 6pm on March 22. They asked on social media why the Prince of Wales wasn’t sitting with his wife when she made her shock announcement to the world.
It comes as the Princess had major abdominal surgery at the London Clinic in January, around the same time the King had a procedure for his prostate. Afterward, Kate spent time away from the public view, recovering from a major operation.
A source told the Sunday Times: “This was her as a strong woman sharing an innately strong message to the nation. She didn’t need anyone sitting next to her. He has been supporting her and the family in the background.”
The Princess was keen to share her news via a video to “reassure people.” A source said: “A written statement, she felt, would be too jarring. It was about people seeing her, and her reassuring people that she was positive about it. Knowing it was news that was going to shock people, she wanted to do it as compassionately as possible.”
Now, following her cancer diagnosis, she has started “preventative chemotherapy” and has asked for privacy as she recovers and continues to be there for her young family. King Charles has called her daughter-in-law “brave” in the face of what is going to be a tough time for the Princess of Wales.
Back when the two were in hospital together, sources say he was seen going down the corridor to visit his beloved daughter-in-law, with whom he shares a close bond.
