Kate Middleton has only made one public appearance since sharing that she is having treatment for cancer and it has not been confirmed whether she will be able to attend Wimbledon
Royal fans are hoping to see the Princess of Wales at Wimbledon, but organisers have a potential back-up plan if she cannot attend.
Princess Kate has just made one public appearance since sharing that she is being treated for cancer that was discovered during abdominal surgery in January. And it is unclear whether she will be ready to present trophies at the tennis tournament where she is Club Patron.
But while the All England Club is hopeful that Kate will be able to carry out her ceremonial duties over the weekend it is reported that they have a possible stand-by. Kate is a massive tennis fan and paid tribute to Andy Murray after he missed out on final matches at Wimbledon in the mixed-doubles with Emma Raducanu pulling out through injury. In a personally signed message on social media, Kate wrote: “An incredible #Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy_murray. On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.”
While Kate is the latest royal to present trophies at Wimbledon, there is a strong connection between the family and the tournament going back to when Prince George, later King George V, became the first president in 1907. Now the Duchess of Gloucester is a possible replacement for Kate, although a final decision hasn’t been made, reported the Telegraph.
The Duchess, Birgitte Eva van Deurs Henriksen, born in Denmark, married Prince Richard in 1972 and is also known to be a big tennis fan. The 78-year-old has been an Honorary President of the Lawn Tennis Association for 25 years.
Kate returned briefly to the public limelight at Trooping the Colour with William and their three children. But in a personal message to the nation, the princess revealed although she is making good progress, she is “not out of the woods yet”. Kate told how she has good days and bad days and is facing a few more months of chemotherapy treatment. William was seen with his mother-in-law Carole Middleton on a day out at Royal Ascot, where he took to a carriage with his stepmother the Queen for the traditional procession along the course.
