Referring to the red as “steak juice” Tom queried, “I’m shopping for Malbec but do I want a French one or do I want an Argentinian one?”, hankering after a bottle that’s both “showy and glowy.”
In an endearing and informative TikTok clip, the wine wizard guides viewers through his sampling process, offering nuggets of knowledge about each territory, reports Wales Online.
He remarked: “Steak is pretty simple meat, pretty delicious meat and I want the wine to really, really make it shine.”
Kicking off with the £9.99 Georges Vigouroux ‘Le Grand Retour’ Malbec 2020, he said: “We are in Cahors, somewhere between Bourdoux and Toulouse in South West France. It’s the home of Malbec and they’ve been growing it for years.”
Upon inhaling deeply, he confirmed that it “definitely smells like a Malbec, it’s got that dark black plum fruit smell.”
Not yet convinced, our wine expert goes in search of something “juicer”. He selects the Pascual Toso Limited Edition Malbec 2020 (£15) vino with the hope that it will be more suitable for his taste buds.
Tom shares with us that “the Malbec grape has been cultivated in Mendoza for “a long, long time – but maybe a thousand years less than the French.”
Taking a slurp from the second bottle, Tom looks delighted saying it provides “a little bit more ripeness here” and appears to be “a little bit more fleshy.”
Taking a good sip of the Argentinian delight, he proudly proclaims: “It’s taken all of the show from the French bottle and added a great big dollop of glow. It is a rich, juicy, fat blackberry bomb that I want to jump into bed with right now.”
