With the sun finally shining, what could be better than a nicely chilled glass of wine to welcome in the weekend?

When it comes to selecting the perfect vino, a summer tipple should feel crisp and refreshing to complement light bites, long evenings in the garden and fun with friends and family. Better still, the best wines for a summer soiree don’t even need to be expensive, with many supermarket wines serving up an abundance of warm weather loveliness.

From TikTok wine experts such as Tom Gilbey and Luke Flunder to retailers including Majestic and Laithwaites, we’ve rounded up five of the very best bottles you should pop open this weekend.

Campanula Pinot Grigio

A firm favourite at any time of year, a nice bottle has hints of pear and citrus making it the perfect companion for seafood, pasta, cheese platters and good friends.

La Vieille Ferme Rose

Affectionately known as “chicken wine” thanks to the feathered birds on the label, this summer-ripe rose is a big hit with TikTok wine expert Tom Gilbey.

Very fresh and very fruity, it has a juicy summer flavour of nectarines and peaches. Tom describes the £8.50 bottle as a “fresh, crisp, chug it all day rose.”

Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Known for its crisp and refreshing profile, Sauvignon Blanc is a delightful choice for summer enjoyment. Boasting a medley of flavours including citrus. passionfruit and peach a chilled glass of “Sauvvie B” is perfect when the sun is shining.

The New Zealand Oyster Bay – a wine that washes down like velvet – is a big hit on Sainsbury’s website with over 1000 reviews from satisfied sippers.

Domaine Thibert Puilly Fuisse

If you want to really treat yourselves, TikTok wine expert Luke Flunder loves going back to the motherland of Domain Thibert, who have been making wine since the 1600s. In a recent video he enjoys poping the cork for a Friday night glass of Pouilly Fussie. describing the taste as ” a golden shimmer, fruit meets the oak.”

He adds “If it was a chair it would be a lazxy boy, it’s luxurious.”

Picpoul de Pinet

So summery that you can practically taste the Mediterranean in each sip, the Picpoul is a must-try for fans of crisp white wines.
