While you can’t choose your name from birth, you always have the option to change it later in life. That’s exactly what one woman wishes a six-year-old girl will decide to do ever since learning her ‘awkward’ name. Taking to Reddit, she explained how her church was running a day camp and she’d been preparing for this by printing each child’s name onto nametags.

But she couldn’t help but question things when she came across the name Aleixharait, making her wonder whether the parent made a typo when dotting her name down. Instead, she decided to ask the young girl her name – but she was horrified to learn it wasn’t a typo at all.

She said: “I feel terrible because I cannot, for the life of me, figure this one out. So I’m forced to ask her, ‘What’s your name?’ And this little six-year-old girl, annoyed, says Alicia-Right and I’m a little embarrassed that I needed for her to repeat herself to figure out what the heck she said.”

Gobsmacked, the woman wondered why any parent would give their child such a difficult name, adding: “This poor kid. She has lived her whole young life having to help others say her asinine-ly spelled name.”

Commenting on her post, one user said: “I would have guessed it was pronounced Alex-Harriet.”

Another user added: “She’s also going to have to live with everyone immediately knowing her parents are idiots, which is going to negatively impact their view on her.”

A third user said: “I would’ve guessed it was A-lai-sha-ray…. tryna interpret where the parents was going with this one. The random x in the name needs to be banned. But poor girl is already 6 so it’s not even a new trend like It’s A Bagel’s name.”

One more user said: “There is literally no one in this world that would be able to say that child’s name simply by seeing it spelled. And that doesn’t even touch upon the trauma of trying to process the pronunciation with the spelling.

“I hope she keeps her own name if she marries someone whose last name is actually Right or Wright. So she won’t be Alicia right right.”

Another user added: “I absolutely hate having to spell my full name and there’s always a question about it so I just shorten it now and introduce myself to people as that. They do still guess the absolutely wrong name as well which does my head in.”

A final user said: “I just don’t understand why people do this to their kids because it’s so annoying to have to correct people getting your name wrong every damn time you whole damn life and why would you gift that experience to your child on purpose.”
