Woman killed in early morning Caterham crash and another fighting for life in hospital

A woman has died and another is fighting for her life after an early morning car accident in South London. The fatal incident was reported at about 3am on Sunday morning (June 9), and happened at the Buxton Lane, Ninehams Road and Salmons Lane West roundabout in Caterham.

Officers found the grey Mercedes E220 at the scene which had crashed with four people inside. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

One of the passengers, a 34-year-old woman, died at the scene. Two other passengers, a man and woman in their 30s, were injured and taken to hospital, with the woman in a life-threatening condition.

Their next of kin have been informed and being supported by specialist officers.

Police are looking for the fourth person in the car, who left the scene after the crash. He has been described as being white, aged in his 30s and of stocky build.

He was seen wearing a white t-shirt and carrying a man-bag.

Road closures are expected to be place for several hours today while police investigation work is carried out. Officers are looking for anyone who was in the area at around 3am and may have CCTV, dashcam or helmet cam footage.
