A woman left her boyfriend gobsmacked with the things she told him while watching England play in the Euros – but she thinks he’s ‘secretly impressed’ with her knowledge

Football is a hobby best shared with friends – so that you can both shout at the telly together.

England managed to clinch a 2-1 victory over Slovakia last night (June 30th) to secure themselves a place in the UEFA Euros quarter-final against Switzerland this weekend. But it’s safe to say that fans of the squad haven’t been too pleased with their performance so far after an underwhelming group stage that saw them top the table – by only scoring one goal and drawing games against Denmark and Slovenia.

Shouting your grievances with your team at the telly is all part of the fun – and frustration – of watching any sport, and it’s been no different during the Euros either. But what one woman said left her partner completely stunned.

In a video on TikTok, the woman confessed that she’d been listening to some of the things her other half had said during England’s 1-1 draw against Denmark, and decided to parrot them back to him a few days later when the squad took on Slovenia to gauge his reaction to her becoming a football pro overnight.

While watching the game, she casually said: “I don’t know why Stones doesn’t step up, because that would make Declan Rice go forward.”

Hilariously, her partner looked at her with a flabbergasted expression on his face as he tried to work out where she was getting her knowledge of the game from. Eventually, he simply replied: “Yeah…”

Other phrases the woman came out with included, “I don’t get why Kane’s dropping so far back, you need to run behind,” and “You need a left back with a left foot, because Trippier isn’t naturally left-footed is he?”

Still baffled, her partner questioned where she was “getting this from”, but when she told him she had “just listened”, he admitted she was “spot on” with her analysis.

The last piece of footballing wisdom the woman dropped was: “I tell you what, in the second half they need to drop Foden in the 10 position. I like him there.” And her partner, still none the wiser, replied: “I like him there as well.”

Commenters were left in stitches over the video, as many said the man looked “secretly impressed”.

One person wrote: “Shane looked proud and gobsmacked at the same time,” while another said: “I think he just fell in love with you all over again.”

One commenter, however, spotted a major flaw with the England squad if the woman could say exactly the same things she’d heard her partner say during England’s previous game. They wrote: “When you realise that this means England played both games with exactly the SAME issues.”
