Christine Streets-Kesteloo has been living on a cruise ship for 13 years – and she’s not allowed to do one thing
A content creator has revealed how she’s enjoyed rent-free luxury living for 13 years.
Christine Streets-Kesteloo discovered she could slash her expenses and explore the globe by taking on the role of cruise director – though there’s one restriction she must abide by.
Christine decided to ditch her land-based existence to navigate the world’s oceans – and needn’t fret about rental payments or mortgage commitments, instead making her living whilst journeying across the planet.
The 44 year old American even encountered her spouse whilst aboard, and is happily married to chief engineer Pieter, who shares her enthusiasm for ocean liners.
Christine has moved away from her cruise director position, but is permitted to reside on board as her husband’s companion, reports the Daily Star.
She now focuses entirely on being a full-time content creator, chronicling her maritime escapades.
Over one million followers tune into her daily lifestyle videos on TikTok, with admirers curious about her alternative approach to living, according to the Mirror.
Christine explained: “Living and working on a cruise ship is its own world that many do not understand. People are fascinated by cruise ships, that’s why when any incident happens it makes the news. Cruise ship life is very mysterious and the inner workings are very interesting.”
There are countless benefits that come with residing aboard the vessel. To begin with, as the wife of a crew member, she can access both staff and passenger areas.
She can also make use of the recreational facilities including the swimming pool, spa and restaurants. Plus she gets to explore the globe when the ship calls at various ports.
Despite common myths, life at sea is incredibly safe. While some people worry about maritime health hazards, Christine hasn’t faced any problems.
She said: “There are over 260 cruise ships on the water every single day owned by over 60 different cruise lines. Incidents on cruise ships are actually very rare with hundreds of thousands of people being at sea every single day.
“Also, people like to say that cruise ships are a floating petri dish. With that said, my husband has been at sea for 34 years and has only been sick once. That’s thousands and thousands and thousands of days it all comes down to washing your hands.”
Christine seems to be completely loving her seafaring way of life. However, there’s one thing she’s prohibited from doing as a crew member’s spouse – and that’s placing a bet.
She disclosed: “The ship is my floating home. The only thing I can’t do on the ship is gamble. I also refrain from filming guests or crew members in my videos. If you see a guest or a crew member in my video, I have asked them permission to film them. Unlike many other creators, I respect the privacy of other people and their vacation and personal time.”
