A plane passenger who’d deliberately chosen a window seat so they could gaze outside was left infuriated after the woman next to her invaded her personal space – and decided to take revenge
A plane passenger decided to take petty revenge after the woman seated beside her invaded her personal space.
According to this recent flyer, she’d made sure to book the window seat, as she likes to look out of the plane. Unfortunately, the woman next to her didn’t care too much about this preference and proceeded to reach in front of her on multiple occasions to close the window shade – without asking permission.
Every time she did this, the indignant traveller would immediately reopen it – only for the woman to close it again a few minutes later. As this was a noon domestic short-haul flight, the passenger felt there was really no reason for darkness.
Most importantly, they felt the violation of their personal space was simply inexcusable and felt as though she wasn’t being treated ‘like a human in any way’. Keen to give the woman a taste of her own medicine, she quickly plotted her revenge…
Sharing the story via Reddit, the passenger wrote: “So I pulled out my book and turned on the reading light, despite there being ample natural light from the open window for me to read. I then positioned my hands in such a way that my watch would reflect the reading light directly into her eyes.
“I read like that for an hour, jiggling my hand the entire time, so it would shine the light back and forth across her eyes and be super distracting and annoying.”
She continued: “Once we landed and she took her headphones off, I turned to her and said, ‘Next time you fly, book a window seat if you want to control the window. Or at least treat me like a human and ask me before you violate my personal space. What you did is unbelievably rude’. She looked SO OFFENDED.
“And naturally, she walked two mph. Being a city walker, I easily got in front of her, then once we were on the moving walkway I stopped immediately in front of her. Did the same on the escalator to the curb, before flipping her off the entire way to my ride.”
Various Reddit users who’ve previously had to put up with inconsiderate fellow flyers felt her pain, with a number of people agreeing they would have been tempted to take action. One person commented: “I am middle-aged and have flown frequently since I was a kid. I still love looking out the window—can’t imagine not enjoying that!
“Your restraint is admirable. I think I’d speak with a crew member to straighten her out. More than likely, they’ll move you to a better seat rather than deal with the dufus neighbour.”
Another agreed: “Window seat gets window and an armrest, centre seat gets two armrests, aisle seat gets one armrest and some extra legroom, we’re not animals, we live in a society.”
