It’s so frustrating when you follow a strict skincare routine and still break out regularly in annoying pimples – but one woman shared an ‘underrated’ hack to prevent this from happening
There are so many different beauty hacks out there, that it can be tough to try them all to find out what works well for you – but one woman reckons the key to clear skin is a pillow hack.
Breakouts are inevitable, even if you have the most on-point skincare routine. From unhealthy food to pollution, and even stress, spots can come for a myriad of reasons – but you’ll likely want to get rid of them as soon as possible. But where do you start?
One woman commented a thread for skincare addicts, asking what the most “underrated tips for skincare” are, and sharing her own advice before asking others to chip in.
She penned: “Change your pillow cover and sheets often. I don’t know how else to put this mildly, it’s probably one of the most underrated tips for all.
“If you are someone who still follows up all routines and finds that you are getting pimples, check your pillow cover and sheets. It’s a breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria. And the most common one. Avoid touching the face unnecessarily.”
Others proceeded to share hacks that they swore by, including “air drying after facewash instead of using a towel, changing pillow covers regularly, and applying moisturiser on damp skin”.
According to Glencraft, if you’re experiencing breakouts despite the fact you’ve got a solid skincare routine that usually works for you, it could be down to acne mechanica, which is “acne that forms as a result of dirt, dust or oil transferring to your skin from an object or material coming into contact with your face”.
The dirt then goes on to clog your pores, which in turn leads to blemishes on the skin – probably at the most inconvenient of times.
Experts at Glencraft say: “An old pillow accumulates dirt, dust and oil from your face which can lead to breakouts. For a small group of people with very sensitive skin, this might be due to the material used, but in most cases, it is probably a case of acne mechanica”.
They also shared that you should change your pillow every six months, and wash your pillows regularly. Also, ensure that your pillow case is made of natural fibres and “wash your face regularly to ensure your pores aren’t blocked and no dirt will go into your pillow”.
