Keeping your home cool as the temperature soars isn’t always easy, but one woman’s genius DIY air conditioning hack could do just the trick – using items you already have at home
You could turn your fan into a DIY air conditioning unit in just a few steps.
Temperatures in the UK are set to soar this weekend, and if you’re not planning on making the most of the sun outside, it could make for a very clammy and uncomfortable atmosphere inside. Normal desk fans can be a bit rubbish when it comes to cooling us down as they often just recirculate the warm air in our homes, but there is one thing you can do to turn your fan into a mini air conditioning unit.
One woman previously shared the hack on social media, as she said all you need to make the hack work is a tray of cold water and some ice cubes.
The woman, who posts on TikTok under the username @watchsharesave, captioned their video: “How to make your own air conditioning unit! How are you keeping cool through the heatwave?”
She then proceeded to show the hack, which just involved filling up a kitchen pan with water and chucking in a few ice cubes, before placing it in front of her fan.
“When it’s hot outside, here is how to make your own air conditioning unit. Just get your fan and a little pan,” she explained. “Fill the pan up with water, add a few cubes of ice in it – and then put this pan right in front of your fan. It’ll blow some nice chilly cold air through your house and you’ll be chilling.”
Several TikTokers took to the comment section to gush over the idea – with many even sharing ideas of their own. “Fill a hot water bottle with water – Freeze it and then put your feet on it whilst sitting down nice and cold. Will cool you down,” one user suggested.
“Fill a litre pop bottle with water then freeze it, stand it in front just perfect,” a second penned. And the original poster of the TikTok video responded: “Love this idea.”
