A money-saving mum has shared her secret trick when it comes to saving money on beauty essentials when shopping, as she said supermarkets ‘take us for fools’ with their prices
We all want to save money where we can – and this simple supermarket trick will help save extra pennies.
It comes from a savvy budget saving mum who shared how you can save on staple toiletries from supermarkets all by switching aisles in the supermarket as she told people to stop going straight to the beauty section. It’s no secret beauty products can get pricey, but according to content creator Lynn, who goes by the name @ohmysavings, her secret trick can help.
Lynn claimed supermarkets are “taking us for fools” over their prices, but fools no more. The savvy creator has helped shoppers from making “big mistakes” on their beauty items shop in supermarkets, and it takes seconds. The hack involves just switching which aisle you pick up certain products from.
For cotton pads, they will set you back £1.50 for Tesco’s own supermarket brand, or £1.85 for oval ones, and Lynn said: ”But if you go the baby section, the exact same amount – 50 cotton pads – cost you £1.15, saving you 70p. And if you go for cotton balls, a hundred in the Beauty section will set you back £1.55.” Whereas cotton balls in the baby section are £1.50 – saving 5p and said, “a saving is still a saving”.
Lynn then compared cotton buds and said that a box of 200 in the beauty section is 60p, but in the baby aisle, you can pick up 300 for 75p. The money-saving mum then urged shoppers to look for themselves and said: “So, walk your two feet to the baby section and save yourself some money!”
People were quick to praise Lynn with her video, as one TikToker said: “Why have I just learnt this today thank you!” As another chimed: “Bloody supermarkets, thanks for sharing, this is so useful!”
“Yep. always check the baby section and for some things like shaving gel, check the men’s section,” another wrote, to which Lynn responded: “Yes the pink tax is real.”
A fourth shared their own money-saving hack in supermarkets and commented: “I always buy nappy bags for my dog instead of dog poop bags because you get so much more for your money. £2 for 75 dog bags or 85p for 150 nappy sacks,” and another wrote: “I’ve been doing this for years. There are also different nuts and seeds around the shop. You’ll usually find them cheaper by the baking ingredients.”
