Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino have been crowned the world’s shortest married couple, with a combined height of just 181.41cm – and said while they are short, they have big hearts

The world’s shortest married couple have earned a Guinness World Record for their height – and people on social media are in awe at their love story.

Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros, 31, and Katyucia Lie Hoshino, 28, from Brazil, first met online in 2006 and have spent many years happily in love. They are now the shortest couple to have tied the knot since records began.

They said: “We may be short but we have big hearts and lots of love for each other as well as everybody in our lives. Our life isn’t without its challenges but we are so happy we can tackle these challenges together.”

The pair measure a combined 181.41cm or 71.42inches, with Paulo measuring 90.28cm (35.54 inches) and Katyucia 91.13cm (35.88 inches). But members of the public leaving comments on an Instagram post about the award winners focused more on the love between the couple than their height. One user wrote: “Love wins.” Another posted: “Very nice. Congratulations to you both!”

Some people did point out the pair’s notably short height. One wrote: “Both of them equals the same height as me.”

Meanwhile another chimed in: “They’re shorter than most people combined.”

Paulo and Katyucia married on September 17, 2016, and have enjoyed seven years in the spotlight since they were first handed the record. The pair also featured in a YouTube video after they initially received the accolade.

One comment on the clip read: “Amazing, god bless them.” A second user wrote: “They’re so cute together!” Meanwhile other people got the wrong end of the stick entirely. One person thought they had had the shortest marriage of all time, writing: “I thought this record meant they married then divorced immediately.”

Speaking about their relationship previously, Paulo said: “I found her very beautiful from the first moment I saw her.” However, the feelings were not requited.

Katyucia initially blocked Paulo on Orkut, the now-defunct messaging platform where they met, and he had to work to win her over. The pair then continued to chat before meeting in person on December 20, 2008. They made their relationship status official just nine days later.

The pair were long distance for four years before Katyucia moved from her hometown of Londrina to Paulo’s town, Itapeva in 2012, and soon decided they wanted to be together forever.
