Police launch Croydon murder probe after more human remains found in New Addington

A murder investigation is underway in New Addington after more human remains were found in Rowdown Fields. Metropolitan Police has now confirmed the remains are human, as the case is now being treated as a murder.

The Croydon park was first cordoned off at 9am yesterday morning (Tuesday, April 2) after the remains were found by a dog walker in New Addington. Following the fresh discovery, Scotland Yard confirmed this afternoon officers will remain in the area while the search continues.

Detective Inspector Martin Thorpe says the remains are believed to all belong to the same victim. Samples have been sent off for urgent forensic analysis with a special post mortem examination due to take place later this week.

Superintendent Lewis Collins, who looks after policing on South Area including Croydon, said: “This is a very disturbing discovery and over the last day or so, the community in our borough has pulled together to give officers the space they need to carry out this important work.

“We are very appreciative of their support and we continue to ask that speculation on this case is kept to a minimum. We will keep people informed as soon as we have updates to share.”

The Met Police added it is not currently in a position to confirm the person’s age, ethnicity, or gender. No other areas are currently being searched.

Residents living near Rowdown Fields. told MyLondon they were “unsettled” by the shocking discovery a few hundred metres from their homes. Jenny, who owns Vintage off-licence in Field Way and lives just off Rowdown Fields, said: “It’s not nice, I feel really sorry for the person who found it. The fact that someone would chop up a body is crazy.
