Drivers on the M25 are facing lengthy delays after a lorry carrying hay bales went up in flames. Anticlockwise traffic is currently at a standstill between junction 25 A10 (Enfield) and junction 24 Stagg Hill (Potters Bar), with queues reportedly tailing back to the mile before the exit at Waltham Abbey.

The fire began just after 5.30am, according to live road tracker Inrix. A statement from National Highways reads: “Please be patient we’ll try and get you moving again soon.”

Pictures of the scene show multiple fire engines attending to the lorry as police control vehicle movement around them. The extent of the fire cannot be seen.

Each of the M25’s four lanes are full with vans, lorries and cars waiting to move on.

The London Fire Brigade has been contacted for more information.
