London is set to be battered by a whole week of rain in a bleak end to the summer. Temperatures are set to stay around the low twenties mark making for what will likely be a humid feel.
There was glorious sunshine over the bank holiday weekend, making for perfect weather for anyone attending Notting Hill Carnival or festivals. But this week has seen rain creep in, which now looks likely to stay for the foreseeable.
Showers are forecast later this afternoon (Thursday, August 28), with temperatures set to reach no higher than 22C. Sunny intervals with light showers will then continue over the next week or so, as temperatures remain in the low twenties.
The Met Office forecast for the weekend says: “Low cloud and frequent heavy showers at first, mainly clearing to the east by late morning. Then a mixture of sunshine and isolated showers for the afternoon. Maximum temperature 21 °C.
“A band of rain, low cloud and strong winds moving eastwards on Saturday afternoon. Rain clearing to leave a mix of sunshine and blustery showers for Sunday and Monday.”
Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington said: “A westerly regime is now in charge of the UK’s weather and will help fuel periods of wet and windy weather over the next few days, with showers and some longer spells of rain likely for much of the UK on Thursday and Friday.
“While many areas may welcome some rain after fairly prolonged dry weather, there’s a potential that over the next few days some parts of Wales, northwest England and western Scotland could see some impacts at times, which we’ll be keeping an eye on.”
