American tries Robinson’s fruit squash for the first time and shares honest verdict

A woman has noticed some big differences since moving to the UK from America – and some of them are as simple as the products you can find in supermarkets

You may not realise just how used to your native country you are until you go on a long holiday or move abroad. While American stores tend to have larger sized products and more variety, us Brits have plenty of items that you are not able to get over in the States. So with that being said, tourists and expats love to get their hands on some of these regional goodies.

One of these foodies is Alyssa, who moved from the US to London after thinking about doing it for 20 years. Now, she loves walking along the Thames every day after work, going to watch Chelsea FC games and exploring English countryside. Plus, she finally gets to try our British food!

Speaking on TikTok, Alyssa said: “I’ve never been this happy, this grounded, in my entire adult life.” But despite being in London for over five months now, the 40-year-old, who is a fan of the NHS and British museums, has only just discovered Robinson’s juice.

On Monday evening [September 1], Alyssa said: “Found out what squash is over here last week, have tried it for the first time today…

“We just don’t really have anything similar in the US that I can think of – maybe the cherry syrup that goes into a Shirley temple but that’s in Sprite, not plain water.”

While you can get Robinson’s cordial in the US, it is not widely available or stocked in mainstream supermarkets. What’s more, similar concentrated drinks are not widely consumed by Americans.

Instead, they are used to buying premixed drinks. So viewers really didn’t know if Alyssa would be a fan of it!

So the American took a sip and delivered her verdict. She said: “I have just learned what squash is in the UK, apparently it’s this… I don’t know, syrup concentrate I suppose you put in water and there’s nothing like it.

“In the US we genuinely have nothing like it… It’s pretty good. That’s very tasty.”

While her initial review was positive, she did have one gripe with the drink. Alyssa added: “It’s good but the more of the glass I’ve had, it’s started to get too sweet. I think this will be a special occasion thing on.”

Alyssa gushed: “I love learning new British things.” And her video prompted many to leave their thoughts in the comments section below.

One shocked Brit said: “America doesn’t have squash? What the hell.” Another asked: “They don’t have squash in the US, what?”

A third commented: “The States need this ASAP! I love it and it’s hard to get cheap in the States.”

Another advised Alyssa: “Finding your ideal squash to water ratio is a rite of passage, the double and quad concentrated ones do add an extra layer of confusion though.”

Meanwhile, a fifth insisted: “You need to try Ribena.” And another recommended: “Vimto is the best, especially mixed with sparkling water.”
