Yesterday saw commuters spending hours catching buses, cycling and walking to get to work
Londoners are set to be battered by rain and thunderstorms today as the capital enters its third day of Tube strike chaos. Yesterday saw commuters spending hours catching buses, cycling and walking to get to work as London Underground workers held a walkout over working conditions and a pay dispute.
But while the weather held out yesterday, those forced to find alternative ways to get to work will also have to contend with dodging heavy bouts of rain throughout the day. Showers are then set to continue throughout tomorrow – the last day of the planned industrial action.
Morning commuters who saw light showers this morning can expect heavy rain to pour in the capital from 1pm today, which will last right through into the afternoon rush hour, forecasts the Met Office. There is a 95 percent of precipitation at 5pm, reducing slightly to 80 percent at 6pm – so an extra hour at the desk might save workers a total drenching today.
BBC have an even bleaker prediction of thunder throughout the entire working, with rain set to continue into the evening time. It said: “Today will be largely cloudy with showers pushing in from the south-west. Some of the showers will be heavy. Moderate to fresh south-westerly winds.
“Tonight will see a narrow band of heavy rain move across the county from the west. This will clear away by midnight, leaving dry conditions and clear skies for the rest of the night.”
The rest of the week will also be wet and showery, with BBC London forecasting the first dry day to be Friday, September 20. Temperatures will stay around the high teens and early twenties for the foreseeable, which may be an unwelcome sign that the peak summer heat has drawn to an end.
