More unsettled weather is expected on Sunday and into next week
A weather warning will come into effect on Sunday evening (September 14) as 50mph winds are set to batter London. The Met Office says travel disruption and interruptions to power is likely with the yellow wind warning in place from 8pm tonight until 6pm on Monday, September 15.
London experienced wildly unpredictable weather yesterday as brief periods of sunshine were replaced by heavy rain before conditions cleared up again. Similar patterns are expected today with heavy rain expected at different points throughout the afternoon and evening.
On Monday we can mostly expect cloud and sunshine, although this is expected alongside 49mph wind gusts. A weather alert from the Met Office reads: “Strong west or southwesterly winds will arrive across coastal areas of southwest England and Wales during Sunday evening, then develop more widely inland during Monday morning.
“Gusts of 45-55 mph are expected widely inland, with gusts of 60-70 mph possible at times along exposed coasts and hills. Winds will only slowly ease from the west later in the afternoon and into Monday evening.”
The outlook into next week continues the unsettled theme, according to forecasters. On Tuesday, a ridge of high pressure will bring a short-lived spell of more settled conditions before another low pressure system is likely to affect the UK on Wednesday.
