The gales will make walking around the capital a bit tougher
Londoners will battle against 50mph winds this weekend as Storm Amy tightens its grip on the UK. The Met Office originally predicted gales teetering on the 40 mark, but has readjusted its expectations as the unsettled weather sets in.
Whilst much of the storm’s force is centred on Scotland, Northern Ireland and the north of England, the capital is not getting off entirely unscathed. We’ll avoid much of the action this evening (October 3), though winds are likely to pick up at around 7pm and last overnight.
This will make walking around more difficult, and could toss around around garden furniture and outdoor bins. However, Saturday (October 4) will bring about winds speeds of between 47mph and 50mph, with a yellow warning now issued.
This will be in place from midnight to 7pm, with sunny intervals breaking through in between. Keep your eyes out for potential damage to chimneys and slats, and swaying trees.
The latest forecast for tomorrow reads: “Winds strengthening further this evening, with a risk of gales, mainly on coasts. Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, occasionally heavy, for much of the night. Rain clearing southeast towards dawn. Minimum temperature 8 °C.”
The outlook into next week ends the unsettled theme, according to forecasters, with the wind easing to a breeze on Sunday morning. There will also be dry interludes and sunny spells, with mild temperatures reaching 17C.
