With rumours emerging that Sarah Ferguson could be relocating abroad to Princess Eugenie’s mansion in Portugal, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond says the move speaks volumes on the status of her relationship with Andrew

With Andrew Mountbatten Windsor and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson facing their imminent eviction from the Royal Lodge, questions have started to arise on where Fergie will relocate, with Andrew set to move into a home on the Sandringham estate in the new year.

Rumours have now emerged that Sarah is set to move to Portugal , where her daughter Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank reside part-time in an oceanfront £3.6million mansion. Eugenie and her husband snapped up their plush property at the Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club resort in Melides, where he’s employed, back in May 2022.

And with a move abroad on the cards, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes the potential distance from her ex-husband speaks volumes on their relationship.

She told the Mirror: “I am surprised that it seems Sarah and Andrew are now going their separate ways. I thought they were joined at the hip, even though no longer in a romantic relationship.

“Sarah has always been so fiercely loyal to Andrew, defending him even in the face of the most sordid allegations. Perhaps she no longer believes him, or perhaps Andrew now wants to be on his own.”

In the wake of Andrew and Fergie’s alleged connection to Jeffrey Epstein, many have been calling into question the royal titles and public image of both their daughter Beatrice and Eugenie. While neither of the princesses have ever commented publicly on their parent’s indiscretions, they have reportedly been supporting Andrew and Fergie in private.

However, Jennie Bond believes that Eugenie’s offer to let Fergie move into her Portugal home should not come as a surprise.

She said: “I don’t think many people would criticise a loving daughter for helping her mother. Whatever else you say about Sarah and, indeed Andrew, they have been good parents who have somehow created a very strong and unified household despite their divorce.”

While Fergie continues to live in exile after her email to Epstein resurfaced, the royal expert believes a move abroad makes sense for the former duchess, as her public image and reputation is seemingly beyond repair.

“A move to Portugal was something I always thought could be on the cards,” Jennie said. “It seems so logical. A beautiful place, a loving daughter and space to call her own. Jack and Eugenie only live there part-time, so it could work out very well.”

While Andrew’s connection to billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein has been in the headlines for years, Fergie’s relationship to the disgraced financier was revealed more recently. In late September, an email resurfaced from 2011 in which Fergie called Epstein a “supreme friend”, despite denouncing him in the press.

Both Fergie and Andrew were booted from their plush estate of the Royal Lodge amid ongoing controversy surrounding their connections to the late billionaire child sex trafficker Epstein. Andrew has denied any wrongdoing in connection to his former pal Epstein’s crimes.
