A police investigation has been launched after Barcelona’s team bus was attacked on its way to Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening, for the La Liga side’s Champions League clash with Chelsea.

Barcelona’s team bus was ‘ambushed’ in London on Tuesday evening, as it made its way to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea played host to the La Liga giants in a Champions League clash, though the scenes reportedly turned ugly on the streets of the capital ahead of kick-off. Staff were forced to patch up a shattered window on the Barcelona team bus, while ‘shaken’ players were rushed to Gatwick Airport straight after the match.

As a result of the incident, police have launched an investigation after racing to the scene. Chelsea enjoyed a 3-0 win over Barcelona on home turf on Tuesday night.

Jules Kounde found the back of his own net while trying to clear a pinpoint cross into a dangerous area from Marc Cucurella in the first-half to hand the hosts the lead. Matters in turn went from bad to worse for the Catalan giants when skipper, Ronald Araujo, was sent off a minute before the break.

The Uruguay player received an initial yellow for, seemingly, venting his frustration towards referee, Slavko Vincic, before receiving his second later in the half as a result of clattering a breaking Cucurella, who was bursting with pace down the left. Brazilian wonderkid, Estevao, doubled Chelsea’s lead shortly after the break, before Liam Delap put the game to bed in the 73rd minute.

Sky has slashed the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, saving members £336 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

As a result of their win, Chelsea now sit fifth in the Champions League standings owing to an overall tally of three wins, one draw and one loss. Elsewhere in their campaign, they have secured victories over Benfica and Ajax, held Qarabag to a draw, and suffered defeat to Bayern Munich.

Speaking after the match against Barcelona, Enzo Maresca was delighted with his club’s performance. He said: “For me, personally, as you said, it’s a big win. Especially because the other team was Barcelona.

“But nothing changes with what team we are, what we can achieve. So for sure, it’s important, tonight’s game, but no more than that. It’s finished. Now we focus on the next one that is difficult again.”

He went on: “The feeling was very good, especially as you said, because it was at home with our fans. It’s always nice to share these kind of moments. But now I told the players, ‘The next 48 hours, completely switch off, have a rest, recover energy.’ Because Sunday, we have Arsenal.

“But my message after the game just was recovering energy. That, in this moment, is the most important thing. And then from Friday, we start to think about Arsenal.”

Next up for Chelsea is a battle between first and second position with Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, November 30 at Stamford Bridge. With just six points separating the table topping Gunners from the second-place Blues, a win for Maresca could prove pivotal in his endeavours of a league title charge.

Chelsea will then have tricky fixtures with Leeds United and Bournemouth to navigate, as a hectic schedule kicks off in the lead up to the new year. Their next Champions League outing, meanwhile, comes against Atalanta at the Gewiss Stadium on Tuesday, December 9.
