Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is speaking to the media after the 4-0 defeat against Newcastle in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.

Postecoglou made one change to his team to face Eddie Howe’s side in the early lunch-time kick-off with Rodrigo Bentancur replacing Pape Matar Sarr after the Uruguayan impressed during the second half of Tottenham’s 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest the previous weekend.

Spurs had the opportunity to put some pressure on Aston Villa if they could get a positive result at St James’ Park on Saturday, with Unai Emery’s side making the trip to Arsenal on Sunday. To do so though, the north London outfit had try to succeed at the scene of a horrendous Tottenham performance last season.

Almost 12 months ago, under the stewardship of Cristian Stellini, they fell apart in a dismal 6-1 defeat, with Newcastle scoring three goals within the first nine minutes and netting five within 21. With Postecoglou at the helm, Spurs did gain revenge this season with a 4-1 victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This time around the visitors had some early chances but made a complete mess of things midway through the first half to hand Newcastle two goals within two minutes.

First Destiny Udogie was dispossessed by Anthony Gordon and the England international played in Alexander Isak to rifle home a low shot. Then not long after the restart, Pedro Porro sliced a clearance back into the Spurs penalty area and it flew straight to Gordon to score.

Newcastle made it 3-0 after the break with a ball over the top from Bruno Guimaraes into the path of Isak to fire home. A fourth goal came for Newcastle late on. They had been threatening to score from a set piece and they duly did as Fabian Schar leapt highest to head home.
