Chelsea star Alejandro Garnacho has made his feelings clear on the draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday
Alejandro Garnacho expressed his pride after Chelsea drew with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge despite having to play 52 minutes with just ten men. Blues midfielder Moises Caicedo was sent off for a high tackle on Declan Rice after VAR intervened.
The Chelsea star was originally shown a yellow card by Anthony Taylor but that was upgraded to a red card after a VAR review. The Premier League Match Centre explained the decision on X which also included Taylor’s announcement.
Their post read: “#CHEARS – 34’ VAR OVERTURN After VAR review, the referee overturned the original decision of yellow card to Caicedo and issued a red card for serious foul play.
“Referee announcement: “After review, Chelsea 25, makes a challenge with excessive force and endangers the safety of the opponent, therefore my final decision is red card.”
Despite going down to ten men, it was Chelsea who took the lead through Trevoh Chalobah in the 48th minute, but Arsenal equalised through Mikel Merino just before the hour mark.
Garnacho, who came off the bench to replace Estevao during the half-time interval, has taken to social media to heap praise on his side.
On his Instagram story, the Argentinian shared an image from today’s game, along with the caption: “Proud of the team today [blue love heart].”
He wasn’t alone with that sentiment. Blues boss Maresca was also pleased with his sides response after going down to ten men, but also questioned why Arsenal weren’t a man down themselves after Piero Hincapie appeared to elbow Chalobah.
When asked about the Chelsea red card, Maresca said: “I just said there, he asked me about Moises’ red card. It’s a red card, but why was Bentancur’s against Reece not a red card when we were at Spurs away?
“So us, as a manager, we struggle to understand why they judge in different way. Moises’ is red card, yes. Bentancur’s is a red card, yes. Why they don’t give him a red card? It’s just that, that we struggle to understand.
“The reality is that it’s red card. But why they judge in different way? And the Trevoh one, I asked the referee, he said to me that it was not an elbow.
“So, this is what they said. [He had a] black eye, with ice at half-time. But they judge in different way.”
