Everything you need to know about Fulham’s 2-1 win over Tottenham:
Fulham raced into a stunning 2-0 lead inside the opening six minutes, setting a Premier League record for the earliest Tottenham had ever conceded two goals at home. The opening goal came in the fourth minute via a deflected shot from defender Kenny Tete.
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario made a disastrous error just two minutes later, rushing out of his box and clearing the ball straight to a Fulham’s Josh King. With the goal gaping, King laid it off to Harry Wilson who then curled the ball it into an empty net.
The sequence of mistakes and goals led to sections of the home crowd booing goalkeeper Vicario whenever he touched the ball shortly after the second goal. This rare act of dissent from the Spurs faithful highlighted the frustration of the mounting pressure and poor home form.
After the game, the Italian star released a statement on social media. “I take full responsibility for the second goal we conceded,” he wrote, before insisting that “moments like this hurt.”
Tottenham responded in the second half, with Mohammed Kudus scoring an excellent goal in the 59th minute with a thunderous, rising right-footed volley that beat Bernd Leno at his near post. The goal was Spurs’ first shot on target of the match, igniting hope for a comeback among the home support.
Fulham, however, held on to claim a crucial three points. The result was their first-ever victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which opened in 2019.
The defeat for Spurs piles further pressure on manager Thomas Frank, as the club has now suffered four league defeats in their last seven home matches. Frank admitted after the game that conceding two early goals was a “classic example when a team is struggling a little bit.”
The result left Tottenham in 11th place in the Premier League after the game – their lowest position at the end of November since the 2019 – when Mauricio Pochettino was sacked. It also extends their winless league run to four matches, including three defeats.
Fulham’s much-needed away win moves them up to 15th place and just a point behind Spurs. It marked their second successive league win and their third in four games.
