Everything you need to know about Arsenal-linked Rodrigo Mendoza…
Who is he? Rodrigo Mendoza MartÃnez-Moya plays for Spanish side Elche CF. Mendoza, who has been linked with Arsenal, is 20 years old and joined his club’s youth teams in 2019 before making his first-team debut three years later.
Where does he play? Mendoza’s main position is central midfield, though he has also been listed as playing in other positions, including attacking midfield. He currently wears the number 30, which is vacant at Arsenal having been worn by the on-loan Raheem Sterling last season.
Who wants him? Multiple top European clubs are reportedly monitoring him, including Real Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus. Sky Sports report that the Gunners have been ‘scouting’ Mendoza, who is contracted to his current club until June 2028.
Release clause details: His current contract has a release clause reportedly valued at €20 million (£17.5m), which is seen as a ‘bargain’ by interested clubs. A move to a new club is more likely to happen next summer, though a move in the January transfer window cannot be entirely ruled out if a club triggers his release clause.
Impressing on the national stage: Mendoza was superb for Spain’s Under-20s at the World Cup earlier this season. Elche described Mendoza as having ‘an exceptional tournament, standing out for his link-up play, vision, and maturity on the pitch’.
