Hello, My Name Is Benji is the debut children’s book from Lynn Pogson, addressing emotional awareness, early experiences and the importance of compassion in everyday life.
Targeted at readers aged six to twelve, Pogson encourages young audiences to explore empathy, develop understanding and learn the value of asking thoughtful questions.
The book challenges how both children and adults view behaviour and emotions, promoting a shift towards more compassionate perspectives.
Drawing on real-life conversations and personal experiences, the story captures familiar situations that many children face but often struggle to express.
Through Benji’s experiences, the book highlights how small, unaddressed issues can grow over time, leading to challenges such as school struggles, emotional distress and wider social concerns.
“For many years working with others in the community, I started asking ‘What happened to you?’ Lots of people just go with ‘What’s wrong with you?’” shared Lynn. “The thing is, this is applicable to both children and adults.”
She explains that the carefully chosen wording is intended to help disrupt harmful cycles of misunderstanding and emotional damage.
“Who wouldn’t want their own child to recognise these issues before they step out independently into their own life and make their own choices?” added Lynn.
Although aimed at younger readers, Hello, My Name Is Benji is designed to resonate with adults too, including parents, carers and educators, encouraging early recognition of emotional signals and appropriate support.
Readers are also invited to anticipate Pogson’s upcoming book, The Magical Healing Wood, which will explore grief and healing for both children and adults.
Hello, My Name Is Benji is available on Amazon in hardback and paperback formats. The book is also available in stores at Walmart, Blackwells, Barnes & Noble, and Waterstones.
