How journeys are affected
Welcome to our coverage of London rail disruption this morning. It comes after a train hit a ‘large piece of wood’ on the line. Customers may experience delays of up to 45 minutes, officials say. Here’s how it’s affecting train journeys:
Avanti West Coast
Customers have been urged to use London Northwestern Railway services between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central in both directions.
Southern
The train that struck the piece of wood was being held at Watford Junction station as of 8am, leading to congestion. Because of this, some Southern services in this area may be delayed.
To reduce the congestion, some of services towards Hemel Hempstead may also finish their journeys at Watford Junction, returning towards London from there. This means customers may need to change trains to complete your journey, officials say.
National Rail says: “We don’t have an exact estimate for the delay, but your journey could be extended by up to 10-20 minutes. Your ticket will be accepted interchangeably on Southern or London Northwestern Railway services between Hemel Hempstead, Watford Junction and the London area.”
London Northwestern Railway and Avanti West Coast services are also disrupted.
