Arsenal given Jorrel Hato hope of early transfer as Edu can use key summer target tactic

Mikel Arteta opened up about the challenges that the European and North and South American summer tournaments may have on Arsenal’s transfer business. The club are looking to strengthen the side that finished just two points behind Manchester City after winning all but two of their league matches in 2024.

A monumental effort however one which saw them come up short in the end. Sporting director Edu has mentioned previously the plan being in place for the summer, but the summer’s action will create some obstacles for the work that needs to be done.

“That’s the ideal scenario, every club wants that,” Arteta said in his final pre-match press conference when asked about the importance of doing business early. “We want that as coaches and for the players especially you want that, and then for the team and the environment.

“When you do that, something clicks, something starts to build there and that’s really important because it starts to give you momentum. We have the Euros this season and Copa America, and it might be a different summer.”

What Arsenal could therefore look to do is prioritise the business of players who are not going to be involved with their respective nations. There have been some surprising snubs and there remain plenty of players whose countries either did not qualify or who simply have no summer tournament to play in.

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has offered up two for the Gunners to consider after surprising decisions not to call up the impressive Jorrel Hato or Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee. The pair have had great seasons at different ends of the field and Arsenal have documented interest in both, particularly Hato.

Michael Olise continues to evade the France national side despite his impressive performances for Crystal Palace. Arsenal have been linked with the wide player in the past, as have Chelsea and Manchester United, and after another good season the former Reading player’s stock is very high.

Sweden’s failure to qualify for the Euros means that neither Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres will be in Germany this summer. They have had excellent campaigns and thrust themselves into the forefront of any side looking to sign a striker, which Arsenal of course are.

In attacking midfield, the futures of both Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira remain uncertain. Were both to leave and he club seek a replacement, Julian Nagelsmann has snubbed Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt, who had another good season and could again be on the club’s radar as a name that seems to emerge every year with links to north London.
