England are trying to once again bring football home and this year, they have a realistic chance to break the 58-year curse.

Gareth Southgate’s men suffered heartbreak in the final of Euro 2020 at Wembley after losing to Italy on penalties but now they’ll try and go one step further. The Three Lions are the bookies’ favourites to lift the trophy, even with starting centre-back Harry Maguire out of the squad due to a calf issue.

Other exclusions included Marcus Rashford, James Maddison, Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish, all of whom were left out of the final 26-man squad in favour of numerous tournament debutants. Cole Palmer, Anthony Gordon, Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton are just a few of the 12 stars making their first appearance at a major tournament for England.

They’ll look to make an impact as the Three Lions try to navigate Group C having been drawn against Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia, the former of which is their first opponent as the tournament kicks-off later this week. England have made at least the quarter-finals in every major international tournament they’ve played at under Southgate and with it likely to be his last competition at the helm, they’ll be looking to finish on a high.
