East London ‘sex attack in street’ as woman found in distress and man charged

An East London man has been charged after a woman was sexually assaulted while walking home. At 10.30pm on Saturday, June 1 a member of the public reported to the Met Police that a woman had been found in distress.

The victim, aged in her 30s, was reportedly approached by the stranger in Paul Street, West Ham. Cristino Martinez, 40, of Fabian Street, East Ham has since been charged with attempted sexual assault by penetration.

He appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court earlier today, Friday, July 5. He has since been remanded in custody to reappear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Saturday, August 3.

A Met Police spokesperson said the victim continues to be supported by specialist officers.
