A major Highgate street was closed for three hours after a car ‘hit a van and flipped over’. Police raced to Archway Road at around 1.40pm today to reports of a car having turned over following a crash.

The driver was found injured and was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Archway Road was closed in both directions between Shepherds Hill and Causton Road following the serious crash earlier today (Monday, July 22).

Photos seen by MyLondon showed what appears to be a seriously injured man, bleeding on the road side as members of the public help him. Other photos showed a strong emergency services presence.

A staff member from Highgate Thai Massage said: “A car hit a van and flipped, a man was quite badly injured. One of the guys couldn’t move and was quite badly injured. Luckily there was a doctor on the scene. I saw the ambulance take him away.”

A Met Police spokesperon said: “Police were called at 1.41pm on Monday, July 22, to reports of an overturned car on Archway Road, N6. Officers attended along with paramedics from London Ambulance Service and firefighters from London Fire Brigade.

“They found the driver of the car injured. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

“His injuries were deemed to not be life-threatening. The road has since been cleared and re-opened.

“No arrests have been made. Enquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
