Second teenage boy charged with murder after man, 76, killed in Dagenham house fire

A second teenager has been charged in connection with the death of 76-year-old Robert Price in a house fire in Dagenham.

Mr Price died at a property on Oval Road North, Dagenham, on Saturday, 27 July. Firefighters were called to attend the property just after 5.40pm, where they forced entry in. Mr Price was found dead at the scene with the cause of death being inhalation of fire fumes and burns.

A 17-year-old boy was charged on Tuesday, July 30, with murder and arson with intent to engender life. A 16-year-old boy has now been charged on Sunday, August, 4, with murder and arson with intent to engender life. He will appear in custody at Barkingside Youth Court on Monday, 5 August.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Clarke, Senior Investigating Officer, said: “I would like to reassure the community that while the investigation remains ongoing, police are not seeking to identify any further people in connection with the fatal fire on Oval Road North. I also ask that the privacy of Mr Price’s family is respected.”

Police continue to appeal for witnesses and information concerning this incident and are appealing for Any drivers who were passing through the area around that time and may have captured anything on dash cam to contact the police.
