Bayern Munich chief Max Eberl has admitted that he hopes Leroy Sane extends his contract following Arsenal transfer links. The Germany international and former Manchester City star is out of contract at the Allianz Arena in the summer and is set to become a free agent.

Pressure has been building on Sane to extend his contract in Munich after facing links with a move away following the uncertainty surrounding his future. Arsenal have been named as suitors for a number of months with Mikel Arteta looking to bolster his forward options as they look to end their 20-year wait to return to the summit of English football.

Vincent Kompany’s side are said to have been in talks with the 29-year-old over a possible extension and previous reports suggested that he was given an ultimatum to pen new terms or leave the newly-crowned Bundesliga giants.

The claim came from German outlet BILD, published on May 6, leaving the deadline as today should the report be believed.

But Sane himself moved to a new agency to organise his affairs, moving to agent Pini Zahavi. Speaking ahead of the final game of the season, Bayern’s director of sport, Eberl, expressed his desire to keep the Germany attacker.

“Leroy and his agency know what we want and they know the requirements,” he said. “We hope he chooses us.”

BILD’s Tobi Altschaffl relayed a conversation with the agent last week, he said: “It’s true. Leroy Sane has joined our agency and we are looking forward to working with him.

“We have a very good relationship with FC Bayern and the people involved. We are looking forward to the upcoming talks.”

In November, the German giants sporting director Christoph Freund reaffirmed their commitment to renewing contracts for their key players including Sane.

“Of course, many scenarios are being discussed,” Freund told SportBILD. “What is important at the moment is that some important players have contracts that are not valid for much longer.

“That is what we are focusing on. We are having discussions about that.

“We are currently concentrating on the squad we have at our disposal. There is a lot to do.”
