While Oasis fans will be dreaming up their ideal setlists for the group’s reunion shows this summer, enthusiasts of the band may be interested to know Noel Gallagher’s favourite songs bear little resemblance to his own music.

While speaking to the BBC for its Desert Island Discs programme, the singer-songwriter revealed eight songs he would want to still be able to listen to if he was stuck on a remote island.

Noel’s first pick was Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols, calling the group’s LP Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols a ‘great pop album that changed everything’.

He added: “It was the rebirth of youth culture that was pretty much dead.”

However, the Gallagher brother said the song he had the greatest affection for was Be My Baby by The Ronettes. He said that the song was the first dance at his wedding with his then wife, Sara McDonald.

He said: “I was dreading that moment coming up, like I have to dance like an adult, and I said just do me one favour, when we get on there, don’t show off because I am clearly a northerner, and a man.”

Noel met Sara in Ibiza in 2000, with the pair getting married in 2011. They announced their divorce in 2023.

Also on the musician’s list was Hand in Glove by The Smiths, which he described as ‘one of the greatest songs ever rewritten’. He also praised The Joshua Tree album by U2.

He said: “You listen to it now and it is easily one of the greatest batches of songs any band has ever written.

“I love U2. I don’t know, if you don’t get it, you don’t get it, and shame on you for not.”

Noel’s list of Desert Island Discs:

  1. Sex Pistols – Pretty Vacant

  2. David Bowie – Let’s Dance

  3. Pink Floyd – Nobody Home

  4. The Smiths – Hand in Glove

  5. A Guy Called Gerald – Voodoo Ray

  6. U2 – With Or Without You

  7. The Ronettes – Be My Baby

  8. The Beatles – Ticket to Ride

Oasis will be playing Wembley Stadium on July 25, 26 and 30, August 2 and 3 as well as September 27 and 28.

While the majority of the long awaited Oasis comeback tour is sold out, keen fans can read all about resale sites and official retailers here.

Resale tickets can be found through websites such as Twickets, which has been officially endorsed by the Oasis tour and Gallagher brothers.
