Catherine, Princess of Wales was caught on camera experiencing a “mishap” during her recent visit to Scotland – but royal fans have been left saying the same thing. This week the Prince and Princess of Wales – or the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, as they are known in Scotland – attended the official naming ceremony of the HMS Glasgow. They were seen at the event on Thursday, May 22 and, as sponsor of the ship, Princess Kate was required to press a button to christen the warship in the usual way – by breaking a bottle of whisky on the hull. It’s reported the liquor was an exclusive single malt crafted by Clydeside Distillery. Every bottle sold will offer a donation to one of Kate’s patronage charities, Place2Be , which aids children’s mental health in the Glasgow area.
In a short speech, the princess said: “May God bless her and all who sail on her.” After the ceremony, William, 42, and Kate, 43, were invited onboard ship to meet apprentices from BAE Systems.
They were the team responsible for delivering the vessel, which is the very first of eight Type 26 anti-submarine frigates to be constructed in Glasgow. It was here that the princess had a little mishap.
After they boarded the ship, the royal couple went head-to-head in a pipe-building competition. Kate got off to an impressive start, while William was seen talking, remarking he didn’t realise it was a race.
The princess – who’s mother to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – claimed her pipe-building talent was a result of years of experience playing with children’s toys. She seemed to overtake her husband, however; videos have emerged online of something going a little wrong – during the moment she was being declared the winner, one of Kate’s pieces fell over, and she struggled to keep a straight face as she attempted to catch it.
Not one to shy away from humour, she completely cracked up after the incident took place. Meanwhile, Prince William could be seen laughing from across the table, and told her it was “perfectly timed”.
After the video was shared on TikTok, royal fans were left in hysterics. They all shared very similar thoughts about Princess Kate.
One wrote: “She seems so natural, so fun, doesn’t take herself too seriously – and she knew how to fix it.” Another added: “Love Kate – she’s so funny and relatable.”
A third replied: “So natural and real – love her.” Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Hilarious – and what a recovery.”
Someone else also chimed in with: “This is our future Queen. The late Queen and Pricess Diana would be so proud.”
When they embark on outings, the royal couple are known to sometimes go head-to-head. In the past, they’ve been seen whipping up cocktails, competing in a sailing race and rolling dough balls at a bakery.
Back in 2013, some insights about the couple’s antics were revealed on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast, which is hosted by Mike Tindall, who is married to William’s cousin Zara. At the time, they joked about Kate’s personality when it comes to competitions.
“I’m not going to say you’re uber competitive,” Mike said before he halted to offer a nod, as if to imply she really was. To this, Kate cheekily said: “I’m not competitive at all.”
“I’ve seen her play beer pong!” Mike added, which gave listeners a chuckle. Meanwhile, another moment in Scotland seemed to capture people’s hearts.
A video shared on Instagram revealed a well-wisher shouting to Princess Kate, saying: “You’re beautiful”. This was quickly followed by the statement: “You too, William!”
The prince was quick to offer a cheeky response and make the crowd laugh. He replied: “You don’t have to say that. Don’t worry.”
