Talks around potential comings and goings at Arsenal are starting to hot up as we approach the final Premier League match of the season.
The Gunners travel to St Mary’s to take on already relegated Southampton on Sunday afternoon (4pm kick-off). They are almost guaranteed to finish the season in second place, but anything other than a loss would seal the position.
For Arsenal, eyes are already on the summer and preparing for the 2025/26 season. The aim will be to challenge at the top of the Premier League table again, as they look to bridge the gap to first place.
There has been a lot of talk over potential comings and goings over the last few weeks and days. With that in mind, here is a look at some of the latest transfer talks doing the rounds.
Julian Alvarez meetings
Arsenal are showing an interest in Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez this summer, according to El Chiringuito.
It is reported that Arsenal along with Liverpool and Bayern Munich all ‘want’ the former Manchester City man. The 25-year-old completed a move from the Etihad to Atletico Madrid last summer.
His debut season for the club has seen him score 17 times with 36 La Liga appearances.
The report adds that ‘meetings’ with interested clubs will take place next week.
FL says : Alvarez would be a good signing for Arsenal, but it may depend on the price tag that Atletico demand. The Spanish club paid a fee of around £82 million, including add-ons to sign him just 12 months ago, it therefore won’t be a cheap deal to do.
The Argentine has though proven that he can score goals in the Premier League. During his time at Man City he scored 20 times in 67 league appearances, while providing a further 11 assists.
Leroy Sane stance
It seems that Arsenal won’t be making a move for another former Man City man, with Sky Germany claiming that the club are not currently interested in signing Leroy Sane.
The report says that Arsenal are instead looking at younger wingers including Rodrygo, Nico Williams and Jamie Gittens.
It is however added that Arsenal could return later in the summer if they fail wil signing any of their other targets.
FL says : I think this is the right approach for Arsenal, while Sane may be available on a free transfer, the club may be better going for younger targets who they could would improve with an eye on the future.
Having Sane as a back up plan is not a bad option though. Although he is likely to have other clubs interested, meaning that Arsenal could miss out altogether.
Nico Williams ‘talks’
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has held talks with Nico Williams about a possible move to the Emirates Stadium, according to CaughtOffside .
The report says that Arsenal face competition from Chelsea for the player, but Arteta has put the Gunners in a ‘commanding position’.
However, the club also face potential competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid – although the former seem to have already been ruled out of the race by their sporting director.
FL says : Williams has been a long term target for Arsenal, which could help them in the race for the winger. Barcelona seemingly putting themselves out of the race is also a boost.
If Arteta can convince Williams about the project and vision for Arsenal in the coming seasons, then it should give them an advantage over other clubs.
