Chelsea have made an approach to AC Milan to sign Mike Maignan this summer, football.london understands.
The France goalkeeper is someone who has been on the club’s radar for at least a couple of years now. The goalkeeper situation has caused plenty of debate this season and Maignan is seen as someone who can make a huge difference.
Robert Sanchez has come under the microscope this season and was taken out of the XI for four straight Premier League matches due to his form. Filip Jorgensen, signed for £20million just over 12 months ago, deputised for Sanchez but was unable to take full advantage of the situation.
Sanchez was Chelsea’s No.1 goalkeeper for the Premier League, while Jorgensen played all but one match in the Blues’ Conference League-winning campaign. Meanwhile, Djordje Petrovic enjoyed a fine season on loan at Strasbourg in France.
The 25-year-old was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season for his efforts and was also the recipient of Strasbourg’s Player of the Season award. However, the Serbian’s future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain, with plenty of clubs keeping an eye on the shot-stopper’s situation, football.london understands.
Maignan only has 12 months remaining on his contract at the San Siro and Chelsea see his possible availability as an enormous opportunity. The French goalkeeper has been with Milan since 2021 after signing from Lille but his deal is now approaching its conclusion.
