Victor Osimhen’s former club Galatasaray have struck a shock transfer agreement which could heavily impact Chelsea. The Turkish champions have already been extremely ambitious in the summer window with a plan made to try and bring in Osimhen permanently and Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku targeted.
With several household European names such as Mauro Icardi, Lucas Torreira and Alvaro Morata already at the club, it is clear they also want to compete in the Champions League and have won this season’s title and cup.
Back in May, an offer was also submitted to Leroy Sane, with the former Manchester City man seeing his Bayern Munich contract expire at the end of June. Joining Al-Hilal, Arsenal, Tottenham or even remaining in the German capital were also options, but he has instead chosen to join Galatasaray.
As revealed by The Athletic, an agreement has been reached to sign him once his Bayern deal ends, with the 29-year-old set to earn in the region of £25million (€30m) across a three-year contract.
Despite such a huge financial commitment made for Sane, Galatasaray appear to be pushing for more marquee new signings, with Osimhen still being targeted. According to Sky Sports Germany, they hope Sane’s imminent arrival will influence Osimhen.
However, reaching an agreement with Napoli will be their biggest obstacle, as Super Lig rules mean they do not wish to pay his £63.6million (€75m) release clause and would much rather pay it using instalments. If that potential issue is ironed out, Osimhen wanting to join Galatasaray is feasible – considering his past comments.
Speaking in February, Osimhen said: “I don’t know [about the future], to be honest. A few months ago, nobody ever thought I would come to Galatasaray, despite how big of a club they are.
“I live for the moment. For what’s going to happen in the summer, I don’t know, but I want everyone to understand something: I really love this club so much. I love the fans, I love everyone associated with this club, from the president down to the coaching staff.”
Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus are other clubs linked to signing him, but a move to the Saudi Pro League, despite their strong interest and offers submitted, Osimhen wishes to remain in Europe.
The arrival of Liam Delap complicates matters somewhat for Chelsea, with another striker arrival likely to result in limited minutes. However, departures for Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix will free up some space in Enzo Maresca’s squad.
