Chelsea have had a busy start to the summer transfer window. They have already announced some key arrivals with Enzo Maresca’s squad changing ahead of the Club World Cup later this month.
Now that the initial window has closed, although only for a week, it is time to reset and go again with new players unable to register for the competition until the knockout stages. That has not stopped Chelsea from ploughing on.
They held talks with Mike Maignan on mini deadline day, only for a deal to fall through. The same is true with Jamie Gittens. Both players were key targets ahead of travelling out to America.
Instead, it is only Liam Delap who came in as being completely fresh. Others have returned from loan (Andrey Santos) or had moves agreed earlier this year (Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr).
Alongside them, Chelsea are seeking to add a new centre-back with Jorrel Hato, Marc Guehi, and Ousmane Diomande all of interest. Plenty of work over the coming months will also go towards selling players.
A large group are due to return from loan and have no future at Stamford Bridge. Ben Chilwell, Raheem Sterling, Carney Chukwuemeka, Armando Broja, and Joao Felix are expected to exit.
Axel Disasi and Renato Veiga will also be up for sale with the possibility of one of the current goalkeepers departing as well. Kepa Arrizabalaga will end his seven year stay (via two loans), and there could be movement for academy defender Alfie Gilchrist.
Jadon Sancho will not extend his stay having spent the last season on loan from Manchester United.football.london understands that the attacker has not agreed a contract with Chelsea and will instead cost the club £5million to send back.
