Benjamin Sesko has shared footage on social media of his sublime solo goal for Slovenia against Kazakhstan after fans voted it the ninth-best of the 2024/25 Nations League.

The strike last September was part of his first international hat-trick. That included two other finishes from point-blank range, a poacher’s rebound and a towering header.

However, his first goal of the match began around 40 yards out after receiving the ball from teammate Zan Celar.

After taking a touch to bring the pass played behind him under control, the striker rolled the ball into his path before driving at the Kazakhstan defence.

Having burst past Serhiy Malyi, he evaded a sliding Nuraly Alip on the edge of the penalty area and went past Aleksandr Marochkin as if the defender was not there.

With only Igor Shatsky left to beat, Sesko dinked his finish over the onrushing goalkeeper on the angle, the ball bouncing on the goalline before nestling in the bottom corner.

Lamine Yamal won the goal of the tournament for his strike against the Netherlands during extra time of their quarter-final second leg in March.

Sesko, though, still showed class by sharing the post from the UEFA EURO account on Instagram, home of UEFA men’s national team football, albeit doing so three days after they posted it.

The player is rarely active on social media, with his last post being on 19 May, two days after the Bundesliga season concluded. In it, the striker acknowledged that “it’s been a difficult season for us” and that “sometimes, in football, things don’t go as we all want, and we all take responsibility for that”.

The latest post on his story comes as Arsenal pursues a deal for the striker. They also have an interest in Viktor Gyokeres, but reports in Portugal suggest that it has now cooled.

Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, dismissed talk of a move from Arsenal for his client back in the January transfer window. “I don’t know where this story has come from but I have never talked with Arsenal about a loan move for Sesko.,” he said.

“Sesko is not a player for loans and this was never a topic with Arsenal or any other club. “If you ask me if Sesko will move in January, I can only say Sesko is an RB Leipzig player and fully focused on that.”

Leipzig manager Marco Rose also made it clear his player would not be on the move earlier this year. “That’s not the case, not the topic for us,” he said.
