A murder investigation is underway after a man was stabbed to death in West London with the knifeman still at large. Police were called just after 2pm on Sunday (June 22) to Hanworth Road, near the junction with School Road, where a man, aged 22, was treated for stab wounds. The victim was rushed to hospital where he died.
Police say the man was stabbed outside the Hounslow Muslim Centre, but they have not found any evidence linking the crime to the venue. A Hounslow Muslim Centre spokesperson said the Centre will remain closed as police carry out investigations, adding: “We want to make it clear that this incident is not connected to the Centre in any way. Those involved did not enter our premises.”
Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this incredibly difficult time. This incident happened in a busy part of Hounslow during the middle of the afternoon. It’s vital we hear from anyone who was in the area and witnessed the attack, the moments leading up to it, or the aftermath.
“If you think you might have caught any dash cam or mobile phone footage, please contact the police as soon as possible. You may have vital information that could assist our investigation.”
A Met Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 2:21pm on Sunday, June 22 to reports of a stabbing in Hanworth Road, near the junction with School Road. Officers responded with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. A 22-year-old man was treated for stab wounds before being taken to hospital where he sadly later died. His next of kin has been informed.
“Anyone who can assist the investigation team is asked to call 101 quoting 4387/22Jun. To remain anonymous contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A Hounslow Muslim Centre spokesperson added: “We are fully cooperating with the authorities and thank the emergency services for their swift response. In the meantime, we are grateful for your patience and request that you pray for any innocent parties involved. Please contact the Police if you have any information useful to the investigation.
“We also urge everyone to avoid spreading rumours or misinformation, especially online, and to report any Islamophobic abuse to the Police or relevant organisations. Violence has no place in our community. The Hounslow Muslim Centre remains committed to working with all partners to help build a safer society for everyone.”
