Chelsea have been handed potentially a crucial update regarding the future of Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens.

The Blues are keen to bring Gittens to Stamford Bridge this summer, having already had a £42million offer rejected by Dortmund.

football.london understands that the Bundesliga outfit are determined to secure a fee in excess of £50million for the England Under-21 international this summer, with Chelsea looking to make a second bid in the near future.

Chelsea attempted to sign Gittens before the FIFA Club World Cup, but will now have to wait until later in the summer for their chance to sign the winger.

It’s also understood that Gittens himself wants to sign for Chelsea, as the Blues continue to hold talks with Dortmund over a potential transfer this summer.

However, a report from Germany has claimed that Chelsea may face extra competition for Gitten’s signature.

Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk has reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Bayern Munich have joined the race to sign Gittens. It has been claimed that the Bundesliga giants are willing to go head-to-head with the Blues to try and bring the forward to the Allianz Arena.

Gittens has made one appearance for Dortmund so far in the Club World Cup, and is yet to be handed a start by manager Niko Kovac.

The winger was an unused substitute in Dortmund’s 4-3 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in their second group-stage fixture earlier this week. It remains to be seen what minutes Gittens could get when Dortmund face Ulsan in their final group-stage match of the Club World Cup.

Chelsea are in the market for a new left winger as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. The Blues will hope to wrap up a deal to sign Gittens in time for the start of pre-season training, with the first fixture of the new campaign kicking off on August 17 against Crystal Palace.
