An ‘obnoxious’ thug smacked a bleeding woman on the head with a bag of cannabis then raped her over a toilet, a court has heard. Morgan Telesford, 26, was jailed for eight years and seven months on Monday (June 23) after a jury convicted him of rape and two counts of assault following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court earlier this year. He previously admitted criminal damage.
The court heard Telesford, of Breakspear Road in Lewisham, met the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, over Snapchat in 2024 and invited himself over to her address, arriving in a taxi the same night. Judge Charles Falk said Telesford’s ‘obnoxious behaviour’ started as soon as he arrived, hitting the woman with a bag of cannabis and announcing he liked ‘girls with bums’.
When the woman jokingly asked if he would grab any woman’s bottom, Telesford smacked her over the back of the head hard enough to make her ears ring. Judge Falk said Telesford’s claim this was a ‘tap on the leg’ was ‘nonsense’.
Unrepentant Telesford then initiated a sexual encounter, which the woman alleged was non-consensual due to the prior use of violence. Telesford was cleared of rape in relation to this.
However, when the woman went to clean herself up, unsatisfied Telesford followed her into the bathroom and raped her over the toilet. After ejaculating into his hand, Telesford went next door to smoke some more cannabis.
As the victim joined him, Telesford called her a ‘little girl’ and said he could see why her previous partner ‘did what he did’, referring to alleged domestic abuse. Telesford then left the woman’s home, slamming the front door.
Woman slept with a frying pan by her bed in case he returned
On another occasion, when the woman attended a hospital with a medical issue, Telesford saw her social media post and offered to assist her. Arriving at her house with three bottles of 16 per cent Magnum Tonic Wine, Telesford got drunk and refused to leave when she asked, telling her ‘make me’ and ‘I will go when I’m ready’.
Telesford then lost his temper, telling the woman ‘You b**tches really do not know when to listen’ before grabbing her hair and pulling her down while ‘growling’ angrily ‘You made me do this’, the court heard. Telesford then lobbed the woman’s PlayStation 4 out the window. Fearing Telesford might come back the same night to hurt her again, the woman slept with a frying pan by her bed.
Judge Falk said the victim had changed from being a ‘bubbly, outgoing, and sociable person’ to someone who ‘feels violated’ and requires ongoing counselling. Meanwhile, Telesford – who has previous convictions for GBH, knife possession, and dealing cannabis – continued to deny the offences and showed very little remorse, only writing to his victim to say he understands her upset.
In addition to his sentence, Telesford also received a 15-year restraining order. But, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order designed to compel him to self-report to police when starting new relationships was rejected by the judge as it was not enforceable.
