A popular car model is being urgently recalled due to safety concerns. Stellantis has issued an “immediate” stop-drive warning for Citroen C3 models equipped with Takata airbags, manufactured between 2009 and 2016.

The recall follows a tragic incident in France where a woman died after the airbag in her 2014 Citroen C3 exploded. Citroen alerted owners on Facebook: “Stellantis UK announces an immediate stop-drive action for all Citroen C3 (second generation) vehicles manufactured between 2009 and 2016 equipped with Takata airbags. Owners of such vehicles should immediately stop driving their vehicle.”

The company assured that all affected customers would be contacted by letter and could also use the VIN check tool on the Citroen UK website to see if their vehicle is involved in the recall.

The Vehicle Identification Number, which is a 17-digit code found on the V5C registration certificate, typically starts with VR7 or VF7 for these vehicles, according to Citroen’s official site, reports the Express.

For those unable to access the online check, Stellantis has provided a dedicated helpline at 0800 917 9285.

Despite no reported incidents in the UK leading to this recall, Stellantis is taking precautionary measures to ensure customer safety. The company clarified that they have opted to issue a stop-drive order for all affected vehicles throughout Europe, including the UK.

Meanwhile, Stellantis pointed out that vehicles impacted by this latest initiative in the UK were previously included in a detailed recall campaign.

On social media, Citroen said: “Vehicles included in this action are the second-generation Citroen C3, manufactured between 2009 and 2016, Citroen DS 3 manufactured between 2009 and 2016.”

The post added: “It is of paramount importance that owners of vehicles who may have changed either their address or contact details keep their information updated with the DVLA (Driver & Vehicle Licensing Authority) so that they can be reached in a timely and efficient manner. Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue.”
