Arsenal transfer target Alexander Isak has reportedly informed Newcastle United that he wants to explore a move away from the club this summer.

The Daily Mail has claimed that the club’s hierarchy are aware of the striker’s wish to consider his options. Isak has not travelled with the rest of the Newcastle squad for their pre-season tour of the Far East.

Isak has three years left on his deal on Tyneside but has constantly been linked with a move away. The Gunners have long tracked the 25-year-old and were tipped to make a move this summer.

Mikel Arteta’s men have instead moved for Viktor Gyokeres with Liverpool said to be interested in the Sweden international. However, the Premier League champions have just announced the £79million signing of Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle are said to be in a strong position when it comes to negotiating any possible deal. However, the report does suggest that a bid in the region of £150million could see a blockbuster transfer accelerate.

Isak had been expected to travel with his teammates to Singapore and South Korea this week after missing the 4-0 loss to Celtic at the weekend. However, he was left at home and the club explained the decision was because of a minor thigh issue.

The timing of Isak’s decision comes at an unideal time for Arsenal. The Gunners are expected to complete the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting CP in the near future after weeks of negotiations.

Isak had been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium when he was at Real Sociedad and again after his move to Newcastle.
