Arsenal have confirmed that Ethan Nwaneri has signed his brand-new contract with the club. The deal runs for five years, expiring in 2030, football.london understands and is something of a relief, considering the known interest from clubs in Europe and in the Premier League that had grown the closer the 18-year-old got to the end of his previous deal.

Nwaneri becomes the third senior player this summer to commit their future to the club after both Gabriel Magalhaes and Myles Lewis-Skelly also signed contracts before the pre-season tour.

Arsenal had explored a deal for Crystal Palace’s Ebere Eze who remains of interest to the club, however, Nwaneri’s renewal means the need to add another attacking midfielder has lessened, football.london understands. The club see the Palace talisman as a central player where Martin Odegaard is also a starting option.

Like Lewis-Skelly, Nwaneri has received a considerable wage increase, putting him in line with many of his senior teammates. Mikel Arteta has used the attacking midfielder throughout pre-season, mainly in a central role despite covering for an injured Bukayo Saka in the previous season.

Nwaneri is expected to again feature for the side at the weekend as they take on Athletic Club in their final pre-season match of the summer. Then he will be available for the first Premier League match of the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 17.

This is a developing story and we will bring you more information from Nwaneri’s renewal when we have it.
