Enzo Fernandez has sent Levi Colwill a classy message on social media. Earlier this week, the Chelsea defender suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training.
Speaking to reporters at Cobham on Thursday morning, the Blues boss announced that Colwill had encountered a ‘problem’. Maresca said: “We had a problem the last two days with Levi Colwill.
“We don’t know how long he is going to be out. “So for us, we will see, hopefully not too long, but for sure it’s a problem for us. We need to wait; we don’t know yet [what the specific injury is].
“It was in the first session on Monday, just in the last minutes of the session. He felt something and, as I said, we need to wait and then we see.”

Maresca suggested that Chelsea may need to sign a replacement in the remaining weeks of the transfer window, which closes on September 1. The Italian added: “We need to wait, and then we see. But, as I said, we know each other from last year, and, you know, in our way, how important Levi has been.
“I spoke with him yesterday and I told him that if we achieve what we achieved last year, it is also because of him – and he was a main player for us.”
By Thursday evening, following various medical assessments, the club announced that Colwill had successfully undergone surgery on his knee. Many of his teammates rushed to social media to show their support.
“We are all behind you bro. You will be back stronger,” wrote Trevoh Chalobah. Romeo Lavia, Malo Gusto and Benoit Badiashile were quick to console Colwill, as were Marc Cucurella and Fernandez.
“Speedy recovery @LeviColwill! Come back strong amigo, wrote the Chelsea left back on Instagram. Meanwhile, the Blues vice-captain said: “You will come back better than ever. We are with you bro.”
Colwill and Fernandez have shared the pitch 70 times over two seasons, helping the Blues lift a couple of trophies. The duo have been central to Chelsea’s recent success, winning the Conference League and the Club World Cup.
Back in January, Maresca backed Colwill to captain Chelsea one day. Speaking to reporters, as quoted by the Evening Standard, the Blues boss said: “I can see the leader day by day, since we started in pre-season, something that he can improve in terms of leadership.
“He is improving a lot. Levi, even if he is not wearing the armband, he is one of the captains and in the future, he could be a captain of this club. Since we started, he is improving a lot.”
