A dead dog was found dumped in a crate in North London by a passer-by last Thursday, March 28. The walker immediately reported the dog to the RSPCA, and an animal rescue officer was dispatched to Albert Road in West Kilburn.
Philip Heyes said: “This poor young male dog was lying on his side on top of a piece of brown carpet in a black metal dog crate, partially covered with a grey blanket. The crate had been dumped in some bushes against a fence beside the footpath, off Albert Road.
“The dog – a black and tan, short-haired German Shepherd cross type – was shockingly skinny; you could see all of his ribs and his hip bones. He was barely more than fur, skin and bones. It was a shocking and pitiful sight and raises concerns that he had been neglected and poorly kept for some time before his death.”

The dog was taken to the RSPCA’s Finsbury Park Animal Hospital. However, the dog hadn’t been microchipped, making it very difficult for the RSPCA to trace the animal’s whereabouts.
Heyes said: “We’re now appealing to the public to help us as we investigate what has happened to this poor dog. Every act of kindness makes a difference and this includes the public calling us with information to help our investigation.
“If anyone recognises this dog or saw anything suspicious in the area on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning then we’d urge them to get in touch.”
Information about the dog and the circumstances leading to it being dumped can be reported by calling the RSPCA appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting reference 1241961.
